tamtam | evolution

I worked on the tamtamassignment and tried to go a step further with the sketches my docent found decent. After trying out a LOT (check out the sketch below to see what I mean, that's one page of like 20) I came up with this. I am now still working on colors and such.

twentsewelle | sneak peak le fabricant

Here's a very, VERY first glimpse at the animation I am working on for the Twentse Welle. Consider it far from half way done and then divide that by fourteen, that's pretty much what the progress is all about right now.

tamtam in motion

We are supposed to create an animated logo for "tamtam", an international news agency and "numbers", which just might be anything, e.g. accountancy, theatre or whatever.

I am still busy with the numbers animation, but at least I can already show what I have got so far for the news agency. I kept it black and white for a couple of reasons; connection to the print media (and newspapers), tradition, a very subtle hint at the lead letters of a typesetter (in connection with the rotating blocks) to name a few.

type used is "courier new bold"

Twentse Welle 1918-1945 II

These are the other Twentse Welle movies that Anika, Jan and I did. First of all it's our tourguide (we kinda called him Alfred, no big reason, just the first name that popped into our minds)

The second one is the dynamic moodboard we created in a couple of looong nights. We are trying to represent the farmers, the workers and the industrial bosses from 1918 until 1940 plus the phase of the second world war.

Twentse Welle 1918-1945

Anika, Jan and I worked out an architectural solution for the Twente exhibition. To see the room build up piece by piece, you just have to click the "invisible button" in the lower right corner. But beware: Don't push that button while the movie is playing, otherwise you're gonna have to click through it frame by frame until you reach the next sequence of the video. I've made the button invisible for presentational reasons.

I decided to design a threedimensional menu for navigational purposes. I still have to model and render the navigation buttons, but the key animation is more or less ready to go.

click in the lower right corner for first steps.

click the object on the center table for further detail )work in progress=

CI Logo | Corporate Identity | Julia Bauch

I've worked the ideas over I've had so far for Julia and did her logo in illustrator.

I've made two versions, I am working on the details now...

I created a couple of posters as well, together with a business card and letter paper...

Rethinking in Sketchup | Corporate Identity | Julia Bauch

Going over the moodboards over and over again I found myself thinking about that constellation of observers and the crowd at the bottom of Julia's board. I started sketching and storming that little brain of mine, trying to make that condition work in my head. Julia wants to concentrate on staged photography... the word theater popped into my head and after a couple of tries I came up with this:

I started Sketchup (just to see that there have been a couple of releases since I last worked with it) and after updating everything I created a basic shape...

Then I started working on some details (in order to get in touch with Sketchup again and for further use in my assignment). I put all the important parts of the structure into groups, so I can use them seperately, too.

While working, I tried out different sun- and shadowsettings in order to get the atmosphere right. I discovered a wonderful shadowplay, which I think I am going to make use of later.

I paid quite a lot of attention to some of the scenes details, here's a look at the setting's backside...

Next I will probably try to get back to a more basic Level, trying to sum up the main elements and find a simpler, clearer way to express it in the CI. I already have something on my mind, all of this work and the pure fact of dealing with it in so many different ways (sketches, 3D-framework, moodboards and of course thinkingthinkingthinking) clearly gave me some fresh ideas.

Never surrender!
